On Dec. 8th, 2024, I conducted a service at the congregation where I serve as minister, celebrating Human Rights Sunday. Following the service, at least eighteen letters were sent in the '24 Write for Rights campaign. (My recollection was that the number of letters was greater, but I have on file, 18.)

Two sessions:
November 20, 2024 & January 15, 2025

We all gather together and write letters to the 3 people we picked out or anything else you would like to write about or to!

Writing For Rights is a human rights event to advocate for those whose human rights have been violated often times speaking out against their government. They are wrongfully imprisoned and need our help to fight for their human rights.

Get your write on! Amnesty International Local Groups 211, 529 and 159 are hosting our annual Write for Rights event on Sunday, December 8th, from 11am to 1pm, at Teaism in Penn Quarter, 400 8th Street NW, Washington, DC 20004. Write for Rights is Amnesty Internationalā€™s largest annual letter writing campaign in support of International Human Rights Day. We will write letters for ten different cases designated by Amnesty International for the 2024 campaign. Teaism in Penn Quarter is easily accessible, located near the Navy Archives (the Green and Yellow line) and walkable from Chinatown and Metro Center. Teaism has wonderful food and tea, so please come hungry and thirsty! If you are able to attend, please sign up at this link to help us ensure that we have enough materials available for everyone to write letters with: https://meetu.ps/e/Nyqfl/19mKk/i. Hope to see you all there!

HR Day 2024 at NW Unitarian Church, Southfield, MI on December 15, 11 a.m., after service.
Letters of appeal and cards of support for 10 prisoner cases for signature at the event.

NOTE: Our report was submitted earlier today (1/8/25); it should have included a copy of each letter of appeal sent to the nine ambassadors (excepting, of course, Pres. Biden).
We saw no place to indicate "copy to Embassy" and so forgot to include it. Much obliged if you can add this to the tally. Thank you. Ken Grunow, AIUSA 78, Detroit

Diversity Committee meeting and Write For Rights event at meeting

During our meeting, we hosted a letter writing workshop for our members and others who showed up. This meeting allowed us to talk about the cases and get a chance to write some letters.
